Netherlands invests over 300 million euros in medical technology
The Dutch government, in collaboration with private investors, has launched the 'MedTech 2035' policy agenda to establish the Netherlands as Europe's leading medical technology sector by 2035. The initiative involves a total investment exceeding 300 million euros, comprising 102.5 million euros in public funds and approximately 200 million euros in private financing. Key contributors to the private funding include Invest-NL, various institutional investors such as pension funds, and a 50 million euro commitment from Philips.
The investment focuses on enhancing healthcare efficiency and resilience through advancements in artificial intelligence, robotics, and smart hospital technologies. Specific priorities include image-guided treatments for cardiovascular diseases, strokes, and cancer, as well as remote patient monitoring via sensors.
A significant portion of the funding will support the 'Hospital of the Future' project in Twente, a collaborative effort involving Medical Spectrum Twente (MST), the University of Twente (TechMed Centre), the Twente Board, and FME. The goal is to develop innovations that can be implemented throughout the national healthcare system to allow providers to deliver more care with existing staff levels.
