Netherlands introduces first battery bond and sees surge in solar carport projects

Zonhub and BrabantEnergie have launched the Netherlands' first battery‑bond, allowing private investors to fund two operational battery systems (13.5 MWh total) attached to solar parks in North Brabant. The senior obligatielening offers a variable return of 5 %–12 % per year, linked to the storage assets' market earnings, with a minimum guaranteed rate. Investment opens at €250, aiming to mobilise private capital for the country's energy transition.

E‑Parc, a specialist in solar‑carport construction, reports rapid growth in the Dutch market, having built more than 50 projects and seeing request volumes double in recent years. The company integrates photovoltaics, battery storage and charging infrastructure, positioning carports as a solution to grid congestion and as a means for businesses to increase self‑consumption and meet ESG goals. Business cases depend on subsidies, electricity tariffs and the combined value of solar generation, storage and charging services.
