Dutch farmers face privacy risks after court orders release of business data
A ruling by the Midden-Nederland District Court has mandated the Dutch government to release business data of all Dutch farmers spanning from 1989 to 2022. This follows a Woo-request (Open Government Act request) filed by Johan Vollenbroek of the environmental group Mobilisation for the Environment (MOB).
The decision has sparked significant concern among the agricultural community. Industry representatives, including Linda Verriet of the Producenten Organisatie Varkenshouderij (POV), state that the disclosure of livestock numbers, housing, and stall details, alongside the private residential addresses of thousands of families, leaves farmers vulnerable to intimidation and extremism.
Farmers have expressed fears regarding their personal safety and the security of their businesses, citing the potential for increased activism and harassment following the public release of this information.
