Netherlands local authorities conduct emergency preparedness initiatives

Local authorities in the Netherlands are conducting various initiatives to increase community resilience and emergency preparedness. In Lochem, the ‘Denk Vooruit’ bus will visit the local market on October 14 to provide practical tips on how citizens can prepare for the first 72 hours of a crisis, such as power outages or communication failures.

In Voorschoten, the municipality and the Hollands Midden Safety Region (VRHM) recently conducted a simulation involving an emergency support point at the De Boschbloem community center. The exercise tested responses to scenarios including prolonged power outages, communication breakdowns, medical emergencies, and fires. Mayor Nadine Stemerdink noted that the drill provided valuable insights into managing information flow and coordinating volunteers when standard emergency services are disrupted.
