Netherlands mayors close shot premises and ban minors after violent incidents

In Mijdrecht, Mayor Kocken ordered the temporary closure of three premises that had been hit by gunfire – the De Lindeboom lunchroom, an apartment on Hofland, and a hair‑salon on Kerkvaart – for one month, aiming to restore the neighbourhood’s sense of safety.

In the neighbouring municipality of Zuidplas, the mayor imposed a three‑month area ban on two minors, one from Rotterdam and one from Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel, following a violent street robbery on the night of 5–6 June that left a teenage victim injured and threatened with a weapon. The measure is accompanied by temporary camera surveillance and increased police monitoring to deter further crime.

Both actions are part of local authorities’ efforts to improve public safety after a series of recent violent incidents.
