Netherlands medieval festivals attract visitors in Oss and Ter Apel

The Natuurcentrum and farm De Elzenhoek in Oss hosted a two‑day medieval weekend on 27‑28 June, featuring re‑enactment groups, craft workshops, archery and a puppet‑theatre show. The event was free to the public, with optional contributions for certain activities.

In early September, the historic Kruisherenklooster in Ter Apel staged its 30th edition of the Middeleeuws Ter Apel festival on 5‑6 September. The theme, “The child in the Middle Ages,” highlighted medieval childhood through games, toys and education displays. The weekend included a medieval market, a banquet, performances by dozens of re‑enactment groups and volunteers, and a range of hands‑on crafts.

Both festivals, organized by local volunteer boards, aimed to give visitors an immersive glimpse of daily life, crafts and entertainment in the late Middle Ages, drawing families and history enthusiasts from the region.
