Jos Leijdekkers: Dutch authorities offer record €2m reward

Dutch prosecutors have announced a record €2 million reward for information leading to the arrest of Jos Leijdekkers, a convicted international cocaine trafficker. The bounty, which is a tenfold increase from the previous €200,000, is the highest ever offered by the Netherlands for a fugitive.

Leijdekkers, 35, is also known by the nickname “Bolle Jos” or “Chubby Jos” and reportedly uses the alias Omar Sherrif in Sierra Leone. Dutch authorities believe he has been residing in Sierra Leone since mid-2024. The case has gained diplomatic tension, as Sierra Leone has refused requests for his extradition, prompting the European Union to reduce certain aid to the country.

Leijdekkers is considered a major figure in international drug trafficking and is listed among Europol’s most-wanted fugitives. In 2024, a Rotterdam court sentenced him in absentia to 24 years in prison for smuggling nearly 7,000 kilograms of cocaine, an armed robbery in Finland, and ordering a murder. He has also received a 79-year prison sentence in Belgium. Dutch investigators estimate he has amassed tens of millions of euros through illicit trade and are investigating links to money laundering and extreme violence.
