Netherlands onion exports remain steady despite lower yields

Dutch onion exports at the end of August remained at levels comparable to the previous year, despite significantly higher prices and a reduced harvest. While export volumes were steady for the time of year, the total available supply is lower than last year, with production expected to reach between 1.2 and 1.3 million tons compared to over 1.7 million tons previously.

Prices for onions have seen a substantial increase. Last year, farmers sold onions for just over 10 cents per kilo, whereas current prices are nearing 30 cents per kilo. Bale prices have also risen, reaching 37.5 cents for medium quality by the end of August.
