Netherlands PM warns of right-wing extremism normalization

Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten has issued a warning regarding the normalization of right-wing extremism within political discourse. This follows a security analysis released by the General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) and the National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism (NCTV).

The intelligence report describes a strategy known as “façade politics,” where extremists present radical ideologies through softer, seemingly acceptable concepts to gain mainstream traction. Specific terms highlighted include “remigratie” (remigration) and “omvolking” (demographic replacement), which security services note carry much more extreme meanings in extremist circles than they may appear to the general public.

In response to the report, representatives from the Forum voor Democratie (FVD) and BoerBurgerBeweging (BBB) clarified their positions. Both parties include “remigratie” in their electoral programs but stated they intend the term to refer only to the voluntary return of individuals who do not feel integrated into Dutch society, rather than forced expulsions.
