Netherlands public transport halted as FNV strike shuts early‑morning trains

On Wednesday, the Dutch labour union FNV staged a nationwide strike that halted public transport. Between 04:00 and 08:00 no NS trains ran and a large part of the bus, tram and metro services were suspended.

The action is aimed at the cabinet’s proposed cuts to the social‑security system, which the union says will affect both workers and benefit‑recipients. Cleaning staff also joined the strike, so stations may be less clean than usual. Service is expected to resume gradually after 08:00, though further delays are possible.
