Overview

Industrial action against the Dutch government's €6.5 billion cut to the social‑security budget has intensified. No strike has yet been confirmed, but unions plan member meetings after the summer.

The 24‑hour public‑transport strike scheduled for 9 September remains in place, involving NS, ProRail, regional operators and DB Cargo. In early August, the port workers’ union FNV Havens called a nationwide strike for 4 September at the ports of Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Zeeland, adding pressure on the government. Solidarity actions from waste‑management, cleaning, metal and construction sectors have also been pledged.
