Netherlands regional initiatives target technical talent shortages

Regional initiatives in the Netherlands are targeting the shortage of technical talent by engaging students through hands-on experience.

In Vlaardingen, the TOV Experience Center celebrated its official opening following a successful first year. The center has hosted over 4,000 students from primary and secondary education, offering practical stations in fields such as robotics, drone technology, masonry, and bicycle technology. The initiative aims to connect young people with local entrepreneurs early to build a pipeline of skilled workers.

Similarly, the PET IJmond event in Beverwijk provides workshops for students to explore careers in sectors like steel, offshore, manufacturing, and green energy. Organized by Techport on behalf of SWITCH IJmond/Zuid-Kennemerland, the program connects technical education with regional job opportunities to encourage students to pursue technical career paths.
