Netherlands rejects further investigation into Christian persecution in asylum centers

The Dutch Ministry of Asylum and Migration has determined that additional investigations into reports of Christian persecution within asylum seekers' centers (azc's) are not necessary based on current signals. While the cabinet declined a full-scale inquiry, it has committed to strengthening existing measures and improving the registration of incidents.

The decision follows reports of threats and intimidation against Christian refugees. In Vlissingen, four Syrian Christian converts reported being threatened by fellow residents, including one instance involving a threat with an iron bar. Additionally, an Iranian Christian family in Bergschenhoek reported that an eight-year-old girl was pressured to adopt Muslim practices, such as praying and wearing a headscarf.

Members of Parliament from ChristenUnie and SGP have expressed significant concern, noting that threats and violence against Christians in these centers appear to be accumulating. Lawmakers are currently working on a joint plan to better protect Christian asylum seekers, proposing measures such as dedicated safe housing locations and faster prosecution for perpetrators of violence.
