Netherlands retail turnover rises 2.8 percent in July

Dutch retail turnover increased by 2.8 percent in July 2026 compared to the previous year, according to data from Statistics Netherlands (CBS). The sales volume saw a rise of 1.8 percent, with all sub-sectors reporting growth.

Online sales grew by 3.8 percent. Multichannel retailers, which use the internet as a secondary activity, saw a 4.5 percent increase, while pure webshops grew by 3.4 percent. The clothing and fashion sector led online growth with a 5.6 percent increase, followed closely by consumer electronics at 5.4 percent.

The non-food sector experienced a 3.6 percent rise in turnover, driven largely by drugstores, which saw the strongest growth at 12.5 percent. Consumer electronics and recreational goods also saw significant increases of 5.5 percent. Meanwhile, the food and beverage sector grew by 1.5 percent, with supermarkets contributing a 1.6 percent increase.
