Infrastructure maintenance and border changes cause regional traffic disruptions

Various infrastructure and maintenance projects are causing significant traffic disruptions across the Netherlands and Belgium. In the Netherlands, Rijkswaterstaat is managing several major roadworks, including the closure of the A20 between Schiedam and Rotterdam for viaduct maintenance, and the full weekend closure of the A59 towards ’s-Hertogenbosch. The A27 Merwedebrug is also closed due to structural concerns regarding its steel construction, and the A2 is undergoing phased maintenance between Culemborg and Geldermalsen. Additionally, the N244 viaduct near Middenbeemster faces upcoming renovation, and the N11 will experience partial closures for maintenance.

In Belgium, sewerage and road renovation projects are impacting Sint-Lievens-Houtem and Oosterzele, while sewage inspections are causing diversions in the center of Staden.

In the border region between Beek and Elten, the Eltenseweg is set to reopen for two-way traffic following the decision by Germany to move from fixed to flexible border controls on the A12, which is expected to reduce congestion and improve regional cooperation.
