Netherlands road closures disrupt commuters in Amsterdam and Leiden

The underpass at Amstelveenseweg beneath the A10 South viaduct in Amsterdam is closed to motorised traffic from 21:00 on 3 July 2026 until 05:00 on 17 August 2026. Drivers are advised to allow an extra 10–30 minutes and follow detours via the A10 South, the A4, and local streets such as Buitenveldertselaan and Parnassusweg. Buses may still use the road, but tram 24 does not run between Olympiaplein and De Boelelaan/VU from 4 to 25 July. Cyclists and pedestrians can use the underpass except during the nights of 6–8 July, when they are redirected via Piet Kranenbergpad.

In Leiden, the Rijnsburgerweg is closed to motor traffic from 20 July to 2 August 2026 as part of sewer replacement and street renewal works. Traffic is redirected under the guidance of traffic controllers, and public‑transport routes are adjusted. From 27 July to 2 August cyclists are also prohibited from using the road and are diverted via the Raadsherenbuurt. The works include laying new asphalt, updating street connections, and redesigning median islands for safer cyclist crossings.
