Netherlands road closures on A2 viaduct and Corbulotunnel cause commuter delays

From 6 July to 11 July, nightly works on the Graetheide viaduct near Sittard‑Geleen require the A2 motorway and the adjacent Bergerweg to be closed during early‑morning hours. Drivers are diverted onto marked alternative routes and are warned that extra travel time should be expected.

On the same weekend a nationwide technical fault at Rijkswaterstaat forced the Corbulotunnel (N434) linking the A4 and A44 to shut, after barrier arms failed to operate following planned fibre‑optic cable work. The closure has redirected traffic onto surrounding roads, and real‑time traffic information from Rijkswaterstaat’s usual channels is unavailable, prompting motorists to rely on navigation systems or other providers for updates.

Both incidents illustrate temporary but widespread disruptions to the Dutch road network, affecting commuters in the southern and western parts of the country.
