Netherlands roadworks cause major highway closures near Rotterdam and Gorinchem
Major roadworks and closures are scheduled across several highways in the Netherlands, affecting commuters near Rotterdam and Gorinchem.
In the Rotterdam region, multiple motorways including the A15, A16, A20, and A29 will face closures and diversions. On the A29 near Oud-Beijerland, traffic cannot use the Heinenoordtunnel toward Vaanplein due to asphalt work on the A15. Additionally, the A16 to A15 fly-over toward Europoort will close Friday night for repairs, reopening Saturday with reduced lanes and a 70 km/h speed limit. Maintenance on the A20 near Kleinpolderplein will also cause closures through Monday morning.
Near Gorinchem, the Merwedebrug (A27) will be completely closed for three days from Thursday evening until Monday morning. Rijkswaterstaat is replacing the asphalt with a lighter layer to reduce the load on the bridge's structure while a new bridge is constructed nearby. Following the work, a 70 km/h speed limit will be implemented on the bridge. Heavy vehicles, including trucks and touring cars, will be prohibited from using the bridge even after the new asphalt is laid. Drivers should expect delays of up to an hour and use alternative routes via the A2, A59, or A15.
