Netherlands schedules major A73 and A1 highway closures for June and July 2024
The A73 motorway between Wijchen and the Ewijk junction will be closed for maintenance during the last weekend of June 2024. Work runs from the night of 25 June (21:00) to 26 June (05:00) northbound, and from 26 June (21:00) to 29 June (05:00) southbound, with a detour via the A50 and A326. Drivers are advised to allow up to ten minutes of extra travel time. The project involves applying a new surface layer and replacing an expansion joint that was postponed from autumn 2025 due to weather.
From 3 July to 17 August 2026 the A1 towards Amsterdam will be closed between the Eemnes and Muiderberg interchanges. Temporary one‑way traffic arrangements are introduced on Kapitein G. A. Meijerweg and Amsterdamsestraatweg around Naarden‑Vesting to reduce congestion on narrow side streets. Cyclists and certain buses are exempt from the one‑way rules. Motorists should expect limited extra travel time and follow posted detour signs.
Both closures are part of Rijkswaterstaat’s efforts to maintain road safety and improve traffic flow in the affected regions.
