Netherlands to implement €2 import surcharge on non-EU goods
Starting November 1, 2026, importers in the Netherlands will be required to pay a €2 surcharge on product groups imported from outside the European Union. This handling fee is intended to compensate customs authorities for the increased costs associated with inspecting the growing volume of individual small packages.
Dutch Finance State Secretary Eelco Eerenberg stated that European cooperation is necessary to manage the massive influx of packages and to protect consumers from unsafe or dangerous products. The measure aims to encourage bulk imports, which are more efficient for customs to monitor and help ensure a safer internal market.
