Neuquén province LNG law gains union and industry backing

The private oil and gas workers’ union of Neuquén, Río Negro and La Pampa, led by secretary‑general Marcelo Rucci, officially supported Governor Rolando Figueroa’s proposed gas‑natural licuado (LNG) law. Rucci said the law would be “the jump needed to practically double current production, open new markets and generate the resources necessary for the development of all Neuquinos.”

The hierarchical and professional staff union (SPJ), represented by Manuel Arévalo, also endorsed the bill, calling it a “transcendental opportunity to strengthen regional growth” and emphasizing job creation and training. Both unions highlighted the strategic importance of Vaca Muerta’s gas for export.

The Neuquén Federation of Energy Companies (FECENE), which gathers over 550 local firms, announced firm backing for the same legislation, describing it as a “historic opportunity” to consolidate the province’s energy leadership, attract long‑term investment and boost employment for thousands of workers.

The draft law, expected to be voted on by the provincial legislature on 24 June, would grant a 30‑year fiscal stability regime, a variable royalty scheme (7.5 %‑12 % linked to the Asian JKM price) and a $175 million infrastructure bonus from YPF. Officials estimate the LNG development could require up to $25 billion in investment, create numerous jobs and allow Argentina to export liquefied gas from Vaca Muerta to global markets.
