Neuquén's Movimiento Popular Neuqueno Sets August 23 Internal Election
The Movimiento Popular Neuqueno (MPN) announced internal elections for Sunday 23 August 2026 to renew its entire leadership structure, including the Junta de Gobierno, the Provincial Convention and the 22 territorial sections. The schedule, set after a federal judge’s order, closes the party register on 7 July, with candidate lists due by 13 August. More than 600 positions will be contested.
The election follows the party’s historic defeat in the 2023 provincial race, ending six decades of dominance. Current leaders Omar Gutiérrez, former governor (2015‑2023), and Jorge Sapag, former governor (2007‑2015), are finishing their terms on 9 September. The internal vote is intended to revive the MPN’s representation and address internal fractures after losing the governorship to Rolando Figueroa.
