Hawk Fire near Reno reaches 27% containment

The Hawk Fire, a fast-moving wildfire near Reno, Nevada, has reached 27 percent containment as firefighters work to control the blaze. The fire, which officials state was caused by human activity, has scorched more than 15,000 acres in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains.

At least 32 homes have been destroyed and six others damaged. Seven people have been injured, including three emergency responders. While the number of residents under immediate evacuation orders has decreased to approximately 23,000, another 40,000 people have been advised to remain prepared for potential departure.

Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo has declared a state of emergency for Washoe County. More than 700 firefighters are currently engaged in containment efforts, supported by specialized teams from Australia and New Zealand. Authorities warn that high temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds continue to pose significant risks to containment progress.
