Overview

The Hawk Fire, a human-caused wildfire in the Sierra Nevada foothills northwest of Reno, reached 85% containment as of Tuesday, August 25. Although Governor Joe Lombardo’s emergency declaration has ended, the Nevada Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection continues to monitor reports of overcharging. Mark Krueger, Chief Deputy at the Bureau, noted that most complaints concerned accommodation costs, though he observed that many lodging providers actually lowered prices to assist displaced residents.

The destruction of property remains a significant impact; among the dozens of homes lost was the residence of a veteran wildland firefighter, who stated the blaze behaved in ‘unprecedented ways,’ making it impossible to save his property despite his professional training.
