Nevados de Chillán safety perimeter expanded due to volcanic activity
Authorities in Chile have expanded the safety perimeter around the Nevados de Chillán volcanic complex from one kilometer to two kilometers. This decision follows reports from Sernageomin regarding a sustained increase in volcanic activity, specifically characterized by seismic events linked to the movement of fluids within the system.
Senapred has maintained a Yellow Technical Alert for the volcanic complex and a Preventive Early Warning for the communes of Pinto and Coihueco. The expanded perimeter aims to protect individuals from potential exposure to pyroclastic material, ash, and volcanic gases in the event of explosions near the emission center.
Regional officials are coordinating with disaster response agencies to monitor the situation continuously. Residents and visitors are urged to respect the new boundaries and follow official communication channels for updates.
