Nevados de Chillán volcano records six eruptive pulses

The Nevados de Chillán volcanic complex in Chile recorded six eruptive pulses on Sunday, with gas and pyroclastic material columns reaching heights of up to 2,300 meters. According to the Southern Andes Volcanic Observatory (OVDAS), the largest emission occurred at 17:24 hours.

Despite these episodes, the volcanic complex remains at a yellow technical alert level. Authorities have maintained a preventive early warning for the communes of Pinto and Coihueco, as well as a two-kilometer security perimeter around Emission Center 3 (CE3).

In a separate emergency preparedness effort, a drill was conducted simulating a red alert for the Villarrica volcano. The exercise involved the evacuation of over 4,000 students to designated meeting points. While the drill was considered successful, officials noted the need to review evacuation times for certain establishments, as some transfers took up to one hour.
