Nevis Premier Mark Brantley Calls for Regional Unity Against EU Citizenship‑by‑Investment Ultimatum

Nevis Premier Mark Brantley said Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda should not have to confront the European Union alone over its demand that five Eastern Caribbean states end their Citizenship‑by‑Investment (CBI) programmes by June 1 2028. Brantley urged the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to adopt a common position, arguing that coordinated backing would give the countries greater negotiating power.

He described the potential loss of CBI revenue as an "existential threat" to the economies of the Eastern Caribbean, noting that the programmes generate essential income for Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis and St. Lucia. While Browne has pledged not to discontinue the programme without a revenue replacement plan, Brantley warned that the other four nations have remained relatively silent on the issue.
