New 40‑million‑CZK Bridge Opens in Karlovy Vary

The city of Karlovy Vary inaugurated a new road bridge, completing a reconstruction that cost about 40 million CZK including VAT. The contract was awarded to Strabag SIS, which bid 26 million CZK (31.4 million CZK with VAT). The previous iron bridge, built around 1880 and replaced by a reinforced‑concrete structure in the 1960s, had deteriorated and was demolished. The new span is 19.9 m long and 15.4 m wide, with a 17.1 m main crossing, and includes updated utilities for water, gas, electricity, and data lines. Its location near a UNESCO‑listed historic area required careful design, and temporary traffic adjustments were made for public transport and local events during construction.
