New books on Sarajevo siege launched in Croatia and Bosnia

A bilingual volume titled *We, the Children of Sarajevo* by journalist Mensura Burridge was presented on 2 July at the Dubrovnik Public Library. The book collects authentic testimonies from ten former schoolchildren and seven teachers, documenting improvised wartime classrooms, a children’s TV program, and daily survival strategies during the 1 425‑day siege. It has received strong recognition in Croatia, being incorporated into secondary school curricula in Šibenik and praised for preserving the perspective of the youngest victims.

In Sarajevo, author Andrej Nikolaidis released *Safari in Sarajevo* at the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The event was attended by Bosnia‑and‑Herzegovina’s Minister for Human Rights and Refugees, Sevlid Hurtić, who emphasized the book’s challenge to readers to confront moral responsibility, remember the suffering of the war, and maintain dialogue about the past.

Both launches highlight renewed literary interest in personal accounts of the Bosnian war and aim to foster collective memory and discussion about the siege’s lasting impact.
