New civic movements launch in Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal

New civic movements have been launched in Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal aimed at promoting national development through citizen engagement.

In Côte d’Ivoire, the Mouvement citoyen de Côte d’Ivoire (MCCI) held its first ordinary general assembly in Yopougon. Founded by Harold Roland Achi, the apolitical organization seeks to promote civic duty, entrepreneurship, and sanitation. The MCCI currently has approximately 500 members across several cities, including Man and Yamoussoukro, and plans to provide training and financial support for youth projects.

In Senegal, the Initiative Citoyenne pour le Développement du Sénégal (ICDS) was officially launched under the presidency of Matar Diène. The movement calls for national unity and discipline to address challenges such as unemployment, the cost of living, and access to essential services. The ICDS intends to focus on empowering women and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises to foster economic and social progress.
