Civic and developmental initiatives in West Africa

In West Africa, new civic and institutional initiatives have emerged to promote national development and social engagement.

In Côte d’Ivoire, the Mouvement citoyen de Côte d’Ivoire (MCCI) launched as an apolitical organization focused on civic duty, entrepreneurship, and sanitation. This coincided with broader strategic actions by national agencies, including the Agence Ivoirienne de Gestion des Fréquences Radioélectriques (AIGF) addressing telecommunications and spectrum management, and the Autorité Nationale de Régulation de la Commande Publique (ARCOP) providing training to help small and medium-sized enterprises compete for public contracts.

Environmental and community efforts have also expanded, with the Agence Nationale de Gestion des Déchets (ANAGED) partnering with civil society to improve waste management and the circular economy in the Abidjan Autonomous District. Similarly, in Senegal, the Initiative Citoyenne pour le Développement du Sénégal (ICDS) was established to promote national unity and address economic challenges such as unemployment and the cost of living through the empowerment of women and support for small businesses.
