New clinical trials show progress in endometrial and ovarian cancer treatments
Recent clinical studies have demonstrated significant advancements in treating advanced endometrial and ovarian cancers through targeted therapies and personalized vaccines.
A phase 3 trial for endometrial cancer evaluated sacituzumab tirumotecan (sac-TMT), a drug designed to deliver compounds directly to cells expressing the Trop-2 protein. In patients who had previously undergone chemotherapy and immunotherapy, sac-TMT reduced the risk of disease progression by 41% and the risk of death by 32% compared to standard chemotherapy. The treatment was noted for having manageable side effects.
In a separate phase 1 trial conducted at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, researchers tested a personalized vaccine called NeoVax for ovarian cancer. The vaccine is custom-made using a patient’s specific tumor mutations to teach the immune system to identify neoantigens. When combined with the immunotherapy drug nivolumab, the approach successfully triggered a strong immune response in participants.
