Abhijeet Dipke granted conditional bail after Delhi protest detention
Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), has been granted conditional bail by a Delhi court following his detention during a planned ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest in Connaught Place. The court ordered Dipke to sign a peace bond, requiring him to maintain public peace for one year. Dipke was detained by Delhi Police under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) for allegedly violating previous peace bond conditions and prohibitory orders under Section 163.
Neha Bora, president of the All India Students Association (AISA), was also detained during the protests but has since been released under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act. Bora and her supporters criticized the police for withholding her location and denying access to legal counsel during her detention.
The arrests are part of ongoing protests led by the CJP and student groups demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The demonstrators are protesting a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which they allege resulted in the removal of over 130 million voters, potentially benefiting the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Election Commission has denied these allegations, stating that any wrongly deleted voters can re-enrol.
