New Energy Transport secures $5M to launch electric trucks in NSW

New Energy Transport (NET) has raised $5 million in equity funding from institutional investor Jekara Group to accelerate electric road freight in New South Wales. The capital will support the deployment of 20 electric prime‑mover trucks and six ultra‑fast mobile charging units, with the first trucks slated to operate before the end of 2026.

NET’s modular charging solution can be installed within 16 weeks and is designed to be redeployed across heavy‑freight corridors, including regional routes. The 20 trucks are projected to deliver 10,000 km of fully loaded line‑haul freight per day, saving an estimated 2.5 million litres of diesel annually.

The company is also building Australia’s largest heavy‑electric trucking depot at Wilton, NSW, selected under the federal Investor Front Door program as a project of national significance. The depot will anchor a network linking Sydney, Wollongong, Newcastle and Canberra, with plans to expand the depot network to Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane and beyond by 2031. NET recently completed the country’s first end‑to‑end electric freight run from Sydney to Canberra on a single charge, demonstrating the technology’s productivity and cost benefits.
