New ice skating facilities open in Haarlem and Tolbert

New ice skating initiatives have launched in the Netherlands. In Haarlem, a new winter event called ‘IJSTIJD Haarlem’ will take place from December 12 to January 3 at the Lichtfabriek. The event features an indoor ice rink housed in the monumental Turbinehal, accompanied by a program including curling, disco skating, and live music. A winter square with food trucks and a winter café will also be available to visitors.

In Tolbert, a new paved ice rink has officially opened behind the CazemierBoerderij. Measuring 387 meters long and approximately ten meters wide, the facility is designed to allow the local ice association to create an ice surface more quickly during periods of frost. This is particularly significant given the often short duration of cold spells in the Netherlands. The opening was marked by local traditions, including the hoisting of flags and a skating history exhibition at the CazemierBoerderij.
