New Identity Card Posts Open in Indigenous Communities of Mato Grosso do Sul

The secretariats of Justice and Public Security (Sejusp) and Education (SED) began on Thursday, 30 May, to install new Identification Posts for issuing the National Identity Card (CIN), popularly known as the new RG, in four schools serving indigenous villages and the Itamarati settlement in the southern part of Mato Grosso do Sul. The first post was activated at 14:00 h in the Itamarati settlement’s school in Ponta Porã, with a second opening scheduled for the following day at the Yvy Poty school in the Te’yikue village, Caarapó. Posts planned for the Jaguapiru village (Dourados) and Lagoinha village (Aquidauana) were postponed, with new dates to be announced.

The initiative aims to bring official identity documents closer to residents of rural settlements and indigenous communities, reducing travel costs and time, and facilitating access to other public services. By locating the posts within local schools, authorities hope to streamline the issuance process and improve inclusion for populations that previously faced logistical barriers to obtaining identification.

The rollout is part of a broader state effort to expand CIN coverage, which replaces the old RG and uses the CPF as a unique identifier, enhancing security and enabling digital verification.
