New Jersey Devils face roster changes and prospect injury

The New Jersey Devils face significant roster shifts and injury setbacks heading into the 2026-27 season. The team has undergone major changes, losing Simon Nemec and Jacob Markstrom while adding several players, including top-six forwards Anthony Mantha and Luke Evangelista, and depth players Evan Rodrigues, Amadeus Lombardi, and Jesper Boqvist.

Because every line features at least one newcomer, analysts expect an adjustment period as players work to build chemistry with existing core members like Jack Hughes, Jesper Bratt, Nico Hischier, and Timo Meier.

Compounding these changes is a setback for top prospect Seamus Casey. The 22-year-old defenseman is scheduled to undergo surgery following an injury sustained during a preseason game against the New York Rangers. Head Coach Sheldon Keefe confirmed that Casey faces an estimated eight to ten week recovery period.
