Dale Caldwell under investigation for misconduct and ethics violations

New Jersey Lieutenant Governor Dale Caldwell is under internal investigation for alleged inappropriate behavior toward women and potential ethics violations, including the purported offer of state jobs. The probe is being conducted by an outside legal team led by former state Attorney General Christopher Porrino.

Governor Mikie Sherrill has defended her administration’s response, stating she cannot confirm or deny specific personnel matters but emphasizes the importance of protecting the privacy of all parties involved and ensuring a fair review. The Governor noted that she takes reports of misconduct extremely seriously and will take appropriate action if evidence warrants.

Caldwell has denied the allegations in a letter to the state’s chief ethics officer, stating he has never pursued anyone romantically while conducting official business. He suggested that race could be a factor in the accusations. Meanwhile, the New Jersey Republican Party has called for Caldwell’s immediate resignation, arguing that the office cannot function while the inquiry remains unresolved.
