New Jersey man charged with attempted murder after Pine Barrens attack

Justin D. Martin, 36, of Saddle Brook, New Jersey, faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated arson following an incident in the Pine Barrens on October 15. Authorities allege that during a camping trip in the Colliers Mills area of Plumsted township, Martin set his girlfriend on fire and abandoned her in the wilderness.

The victim managed to locate a worker in the woods and requested emergency assistance. Responders found her conscious but suffering from burns and smoke inhalation. She was transported to the Temple University Burn Center in Philadelphia, where she was reported to be in stable condition.

Court documents and investigators indicate a history of alleged verbal abuse and previous incidents involving the victim. Following the attack, Martin reportedly contacted the victim's mother to claim they had argued and that he had left the campsite before emergency services notified the family of the woman's injuries.
