New Jersey thunderstorms cause flash flooding and vehicle rescues

Severe thunderstorms dumped more than five inches of rain across parts of New Jersey on Thursday, causing significant flash flooding in several municipalities. Gloucester County was among the hardest-hit areas, with Washington Township, Pitman, and South Harrison recording heavy rainfall.

In Glassboro, Rowan University reported that several buildings took on water during the storms, which coincided with student move-in week. Flooding in the university's parking garage also damaged several vehicles. Other areas experiencing heavy impacts included Sayreville, where police reported flooding ‘all over town,’ as well as Elizabeth, Hasbrouck Heights, and Teterboro, where emergency responders performed vehicle rescues from high water.

While the storms caused localized flooding and property damage, power outages remained minimal for utility customers, and NJ Transit reported no lingering service issues.
