New Patriotic Party approves proxy voting for October elections

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has approved the use of proxy voting for its upcoming National Officers Elections, scheduled for October 3. This decision reverses a recent restriction on proxy voting that had been implemented in previous internal elections, including the party’s presidential primary in January, due to concerns regarding potential abuse.

Frederick Opare Ansah, Chairman of the National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC), stated that the proxy arrangement is intended to allow eligible members of the NPP diaspora to participate in the voting process.

In addition to the return of proxy voting, the party has implemented significant changes to its electoral structure. The electorate for the Youth Organizer position has been expanded to include all delegates under the age of 40, a move that increases the number of eligible voters in that category to over 2,000. Furthermore, the voting pool for the Women’s Organizer position has been broadened to include all female delegates, rather than being limited to specific organizers and deputies.
