New Patriotic Party candidates mobilize for internal elections

Candidates within Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) are mobilizing for upcoming internal elections as the party seeks to reorganize following the 2024 general election. In the race for National First Vice Chairman, a poll by Global InfoAnalytics shows Nana Akomea leading with a 68% net favourability score, ahead of Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid (66%) and Nana Boakye (62%). Another aspirant, Anna Horma Akaisi Miezah, has pledged to focus on party unity, discipline, and grassroots mobilization to prepare for the 2028 elections.

Other internal contests include Alois K. K. Mohl, who has declared his intention to contest the NPP parliamentary primary in the Nandom Constituency, and Chris Lloyd, who is seeking the position of National Youth Organiser. Lloyd aims to strengthen constituency-level youth programs and improve mobilization.

Commenting on the party’s recent electoral performance, journalist Paul Adom-Otchere suggested that the NPP’s 2024 defeat was partly due to voter disillusionment over the economy, which led many supporters to stay home rather than vote for the opposition.
