New Patriotic Party prepares for internal elections and 2028 race

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is undergoing significant internal shifts as it prepares for upcoming national executive elections and the 2028 general elections in Ghana.

In the race for National Chairman, a Global InfoAnalytics survey indicates John Boadu is the frontrunner with 27% support, followed by Boakye Agyarko at 15% and Paul Afoko at 10%. Agyarko has pledged to rebuild the party following its 2024 electoral defeat, aiming to support presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

For the General Secretary position, Justin Kodua Frimpong leads with 36% support, according to recent polling. Other leadership contests include the National Organiser race, where Titus Glover holds a lead with 23% support.

A voter perception survey by Africa Policy Lens suggests Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia maintains a competitive advantage in hypothetical 2028 matchups against potential National Democratic Congress (NDC) challengers, including Johnson Asiedu Nketia and Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.

Additionally, the NPP UK Branch has elected new executives, with Charles Asmah winning the First Vice Chairman position and Andy Owusu elected as Chairman.
