New Patriotic Party holds regional elections and primaries in Ghana

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is conducting several internal electoral processes across Ghana. In the Bono Region, approximately 281 to 380 delegates are scheduled to elect a new team of regional executives on August 15, 2026, at the GNAT Hostel in Sunyani. The contest features 29 aspirants vying for 11 positions, including the Regional Chairman race where incumbent Kwame Baffoe Abronye faces competition. The election is viewed as a strategic move to rebuild the party's grassroots presence in a region currently dominated by the National Democratic Congress.

Simultaneously, the NPP in the Upper West Region is preparing to elect new regional executives at the Wa Technical Institute on August 15, 2026. Around 260 delegates from eleven constituencies will participate in the vote. Security measures are in place, with police assigned to ensure a peaceful transition of leadership for roles such as chairman, secretary, and various wing organizers.

In Nandom, the party's parliamentary primary has evolved into a four-way contest. Candidates include legal practitioner Sylvester Isang, former Interior Minister Ambrose Dery, Alois Kog Kyaakpier Mohl, and Martin Dikumwine Delle. The race is being positioned as a precursor to the 2028 elections.
