New psychoanalytic book explores sexuality as a lifelong construction

Psychoanalysts Mônica Donetto Guedes and Renata Botelho have organized a new collection titled ‘Sexualidades Não Nascem Prontas: do nascimento ao envelhecimento’ (Sexualities Are Not Born Ready: from birth to aging), published by INM Editora.

The work explores human sexuality and desire as dynamic, lifelong processes rather than fixed patterns. Using a psychoanalytic lens, the collection features various specialists discussing how culture, personal history, and identity transformations influence desire across different life stages, from childhood through old age.

Key themes include the impact of social pressures on the body, the evolution of affective bonds in the face of new technologies, and the complexities of contemporary relationships. The book aims to provide a space for reflection on the continuous construction of the self rather than offering rigid behavioral standards.

The book launch is scheduled for August 13 at 6:00 PM at Livraria da Travessa in BarraShopping, Rio de Janeiro. The event will include an autograph session with the organizers and contributors and is free to the public.
