New psychoanalytic book on sexuality to launch in São Paulo
The book “Sexualidades Não Nascem Prontas: do nascimento ao envelhecimento” (Sexualities Are Not Born Ready: From Birth to Aging) will be launched on August 20 at Livraria Drummond in São Paulo. Organized by psychoanalysts Mônica Donetto Guedes and Renata Botelho and published by INM Editora, the collection brings together specialists to discuss desire, affection, and the transformations of sexuality throughout various life stages.
Using a psychoanalytic perspective, the work challenges rigid models of behavior and the concept of an “ideal sexuality.” The contributors explore how desire is shaped by culture, personal history, and identity shifts. Specific topics include the impact of social pressures on the body, the role of new technologies, and the complexities of contemporary relationships.
One featured chapter, written by Mônica Donetto Guedes, examines the silence of bodies during the postpartum period, addressing how exhaustion, division of labor, and emotional support influence intimacy following the birth of a child. The launch event in São Paulo will be free to the public and include an autograph session with participating authors.
