New South Wales allocates $6.5 bn for electric bus fleet as 2026 Australasia Bus Expo approaches
The New South Wales Government announced a $6.5 billion investment over the next decade to purchase at least 1,700 electric buses and upgrade 17 bus depots for charging and operations. The plan expands the state’s Zero Emission Buses program, which already has more than 220 electric buses in service, and includes new depot facilities such as the purpose‑built electric bus depot at Macquarie Park. The funding is paired with broader transport‑affordability measures, including a $100 reduction in private‑vehicle registration fees, a lower weekly toll cap and a freeze on public‑transport fare increases.
In parallel, BusNSW and the NSW government are hosting the 2026 Australasia Bus & Coach Expo at Sydney Showground on 15‑16 July. The two‑day exhibition will showcase the latest buses, coaches, technologies and services for the industry across Australia and New Zealand, and feature networking events such as the Irizar Welcome Function and the BLK Industry Gala Dinner. The expo provides a platform for operators, manufacturers and government agencies to see new developments that align with the state’s push toward zero‑emission public transport.
