New strategic directorates installed in Italy's ASL Lecce and ASL Barletta‑Andria‑Trani
In Lecce, the regional health authority ASL Lecce completed its strategic leadership team on 24 June 2024. Andrea Chiari, a lawyer with previous experience as administrative director in Taranto and Brindisi, assumed the role of Director of Administration, while Maria Nacci was reconfirmed as Medical Director. Together with General Director Gianluca Capochiani, they pledged to cut waiting lists, improve emergency‑urgency services and advance community hospital projects.
In the neighboring province of Barletta‑Andria‑Trani, the newly installed strategic direction of ASL BT was highlighted by the FIALS health‑care union. The union urged the new management to address staffing shortages, especially for OSS personnel, secure the right to a cafeteria or meal vouchers, and ensure prompt payment of productivity bonuses and career‑progression benefits. The union stressed that these measures are essential for maintaining patient safety and staff motivation.
Both events reflect a broader push for organizational reform and improved service delivery within Italy’s regional health system.
