New suspension bridge restores connectivity over Trishuli River

A new 268-meter suspension bridge has opened to the public, restoring connectivity across the Trishuli River in Nuwakot, Nepal. The bridge connects Dhunge and Trishuli Bazaar, providing a safe alternative to the hazardous zip-line and tuin systems that residents had been forced to use since August 26.

The previous concrete bridges were destroyed by the Bhotekoshi flood, which severed links between the district headquarters and several densely populated areas, including Meghang, Kispang, and various wards in Bidur Municipality. Before the bridge opened, residents often had to travel approximately 40 kilometers to reach the main highway.

While the main structural components are complete, some auxiliary work remains, including the installation of support cables. Local officials and residents noted that the bridge has significantly improved mobility and safety, particularly for the elderly and for the transport of relief supplies.
