Nepal flood recovery and infrastructure restoration

Overview

Following the Bhotekoshi flood on August 26, recovery efforts have focused on restoring connectivity and tourism access in several Nepalese districts.

In Nuwakot, a new 268-meter suspension bridge has opened to connect Dhunge and Trishuli Bazaar across the Trishuli River. This infrastructure provides a safe alternative to hazardous zip-line systems and restores links between the district headquarters and populated areas like Meghang and Kispang that were severed when previous concrete bridges were destroyed.

In the tourism sector, trekking routes have begun to reopen. A temporary footbridge over the Bhotekoshi River at Syafrubesi has restored access to the Tamang Heritage Trail in Rasuwa and the Ruby Valley route in Dhading. Additionally, the Manaslu-Larke Pass area has reopened following disruptions to the Budhigandaki River in Gorkha. Other regions previously affected by the flooding, including Langtang, Kyanjin, and Gosaikunda, had already resumed operations.
